APRIL 18, 1998 FUNDRAISER SUCCESS

The first Friends of 1800 Market fundraising event at the Haas Lilienthal House April 18th was a big success. Around 125 people attended, most of them longtime supporters, some of them new converts.

THE STARS COME OUT

We had visits from three San Francisco supervisors, Tom Ammiano, Leland Yee, and Mark Leno. The event was graced with the presence of the reigning Emperor of San Francisco, Fred Lewis, and reigning Empress Alexis, Emperor Simeon and Empress Marlena, and Emperor Steven Rasher and Empress Donna Sachet, accompanying the mysterious Anita Fallon II. Juanita Owens, presently a member of the San Francisco School Board, and her partner Rosalinda del Moral, a candidate for the Democratic Central Committee, attended as official representatives of the CCP Board. Both women are past members of the Board. The current members were on retreat together, so were unable to attend.

EARTHQAKE DAY

April 18th is the anniversary of the great 1906 earthquake, so for many of us the day started at 5 a.m. with a commemoration at Lotta's Fountain, followed by the painting of the Golden Hydrant at Dolores Park, the hydrant whose water finally extinguished the fire after the quake. It was an appropriate day for us to be honoring the Fallon Building, since it not only survived the "events of 1906," but has now, thanks to the recent Joint Agreement, survived another threat to its existence.

TO BE REPEATED...

Preparations are underway for a second annual April 18 event kicking off in the wee hours of the morning at Lotta's Fountain with the old time survivors of the 1906 Quake.

Funds raised will be used for the restoration of the Fallon Building as a part of the new Community Center.

THANKS!
